Antique Cut Glass Hinged Box – Marked C.F. Monroe – Sterling

This is an impressive cut glass hinged covered box that is secured with a marked ‘Sterling – C.F.M. Co.’ sterling band that holds and hinges the top to the bottom. This signature represents the C.F. Monroe company. This box is decorated with a detailed cut glass star design and is an impressive 8″ diameter and stands 4″ high. Box is in excellent original condition and you will not want to miss adding this fine piece to your cut glass collection.
Charles F. Monroe opened his first shop in 1880 and it is was located in Meriden, Connecticut and he dealt primarily in imported glassware. By 1882, Monroe was operating his own glass-decorating studio, and was soon employing highly talented local artists as decorators. When the 1890’s arrived and the demand for finely decorated glass was its height, the Monroe company was located in several large buildings.
