Antique Carousel Mirror Panel Carved Cupid – 1909 Looff

Wood framed carousel panel with mirrored insert. Carved cherub face with wings at the crown.Highly carved and decorative antique carousel mirrored panel from an antique carousel ride. This piece measures 34″ wide and is 45 1/2″ high. This mirror came off of a Carousel that would of been made by Charles Looff he was a master carver and builder of carousels and amusement rides. He is known for building the first Carousel at Coney Island in 1876. This mirror panel came from a local collection. There are several examples of this popular panels in his carousels that are still on display one which can be seen in Spokane Washington. I would date this decorative panel around 1909.
