W269B Two Colored Horse Hair Bridle
This is an exceptional all original horse hair bridle that we were able to purchase here locally in Lexington, Nebraska. This bridle came from Nancy Wright, (Lexington, Nebraska) who consigned this bridle to Valish Sales. The bridle was found in a trunk after her father (Harold Kirkpatrick - who lived his life here in Lexington, NE) had died. Harold was a widely known business man in the Lexington area and he owned several businesses and property. Nancy and her sister remember this bridle hanging in her families bar which was located originally at 810 N. Monroe St. here in Lexington. This barn has since been torn down. Nancy believes that this horse hair bridle could have been her grandfathers. This information was obtained thru Bernie Valish of Valish Auctions, Lexington, Nebraska.
The bridle is all complete and original, horse hair makes up the entire bridle except for the reins, and the strap that goes under the bottom mouth portion. This bridle is 25" long from the bottom of the bit to the top of the headstall. Notice the attractive tassels that hang down on either side of the bridle and the horse celluloid rosette type medallions that are on either side of the head stall. There is two minor imperfections on this bridle, one is the leather that holds the rosette has broken and needs to be sewn back onto the bridle and secondly a decorative strap that hangs down in the middle of the horse's nose has come loose that supports the middle tassel that hangs down the middle of the nose. Both of these imperfections could easily be repaired by someone with the correct skills. This is an exceptional piece of American Old West folk art which would have been done most often at a State Prison.
