P482 Portrait on Ivory - Artist Signed Kaughman
Exceptional scrolling floral details surround the winged cupid figure that is portrayed atop this silver frame. The velvet covered matting of the frame encircles the true piece of artwork which is a lovely female portrait that has been done on ivory. This portrait on ivory piece of artwork is signed in the middle of the portrait on the right hand side on the front, as well as signed information on the back of the ivory. The people that I bought the ivory portrait from had taken the ivory insert out and the signatures on the back are wrote in a different language than English. They read something like: 'Zulericlix zu Hresslen Lebyllson - Artist 'Knuffmann'. The signature on the front is somewhat difficult to read, it does appear to be, 'A. Knuffmann', to the best of my ability to read this. The silver colored frame has a hook at the top to allow this frame to be hung. Also, on the backside of the frame there is right below this hook part of a hinged mechanism that appears as if at one time this frame had a easel support on the backside to allow one to display this framed portrait in a self supportive manner, perhaps displayed on a table, etc.. This frame supports the convex glass covered opening of the ivory portrait beautifully and what an exceptional piece of signed artwork this item is. The measurements of the frame is 9 1/2" long and at the widest point is 6 1/4" wide, the thickness is 1/2" thick.
