P085C Print - Two females with torch - 1897
This small 8 1/2" x 14 3/4" all original old print is signed and although I am not certain of all the information and signatures, I can make out the following, 'Copyright 1897 by G.H. Barse Jr.' above this in the same lower right hand corner of the print is more information and to the best of my guess it reads, 'Curley Print' or 'Gurley Print', or Girley Print'. - Copyright 1868 by Curtis 'Sefameron' or it could be 'Curtis S. Fameron'. I am not certain of this last bit of information, it is challenging to properly read. The subject matter of this print appears to have a story behind it as well that I am uncertain how to interpret. It appears to be done of two semi-nude women embracing each other while one is holding a lighted torch while the second appears to have a cover to snuff out the torch. The women appear to be air born floating in mid air, with silk cloth being draped around them. It is a very interesting work of art. One that I know has more to be told, I just don't know the complete story at this time, it you have any more information regarding either this print or the artist please let us know. This print is still in it's original frame and there is a label on the back from the company that framed it that reads, 'Foltz a Hardy' Books - Stationery - Art - Colorado Springs, Co'. Some very minor nicks on the frame.
