G424B Thomas Webb & Sons Burmese Vase
This 3 3/4" high vase is signed on the bottom by its maker, 'Thos. Webb & Sons - Queens Burmeseware Patented' Rd# 80157' It is difficult to clearly read the above listed number and I could be corrected on the number. This beautifully decorated Burmese vase has a fluted seven point rim done in a flower petal shape and an enameled floral decoration with cherries finishes the small vase. This particular shape of Burmese vase can be found in Mt. Washington book of Burmese on page 66. This vase is in excellent all original condition.
The following is a bit of history regarding Burmese glass. Burmese glass was patented in 1885 by the US Mount Washington Glass Co. New Bedford, Massachusetts, USA. Burmese glass found favour with Queen Victoria, and from 1886, the British company of Thomas Webb & Sons was licensed to produce their own version known as Queen's Burmeseware, which was used for tableware and decorative glass, often with painted decoration.
You will not want to miss adding this beautiful piece to your own personal burmese art glass collection.
