G348C  Exceptional Companion Pair of Majolica Figural Busts

Exquisite pieces of art! We are thrilled to be able to offer this amazing companion pair of majolica busts that feature a man and woman dressed in their finest apparel as if for a theatrical performance and or outing. Notice that the man has jingling bells attached to his arm sleeves giving one the appearance as if he might be a comedian jester. Both the woman and man are holding a fan in one of their hands, the one that is on their back side. Note the similarities of the high ruffled collars, the tasseled hats, and the scrolling bases, there is no doubt that these two busts are an original pair, and how wonderful that they have remained together over the years. Notice that there is a combination of both a high glaze and a softer satin type covering that has been used on these busts, amazing! Exceptional all original condition on these busts that measure 24 1/2 and 23 1/2" high, and 16" and 14" wide accordingly with the man being the biggest of the two. Look closely at the wonderful details in the facial expressions of these two, it's phenomenal! The woman is impressed on her back with the information, "BU 1399' and the man is marked, 'BU 1398'. This signature stands for 'The Brothers Urbach…(thus the B.P.) The pottery was founded in 1882 in Turn-Teplitz and operated until 1906. Some of their examples can be found in the reference book, 'European Majolica - by Michael Murray' on page 112. This is an exceptional find and we have never seen statues like this before, you will not want to miss adding these pieces of fine art in your own collection! - $7250.
