G146B Wedgwood Jasper Ware Liquor Decanter
This is a beautiful example of a special company made piece of signed, 'Wedgwood' jasper ware liqueur bottle done in the sage green color. This bottle is signed on the bottom, 'Manufactured for Humphrey, Taylor & Co. - London 1770 - Distillers of Famous Liqueurs' 'By Wedgwood'. There is also the impressed 'Wedgwood' signature on the bottom of this liquor bottle. The impressed Wedgwood marking dates this jar to prior to 1891 circa, however in a reference book titled, 'Wedgwood Jasper Ware - A Shape Book and Collectors Guide' by Michael Herman, on page 10, there is a liqueur bottle with this same signature and markings and they date this bottle to Circa 1910. This 7 1/2" high liqueur bottle is in exceptional all original condition. At the widest point this bottle is 5" diameter. The bottle is decorated with the Muses or the goddesses of the fine arts, they are identified as the following, 1) 'Euterpe - Muse of Lyric Poetry', 2) Urania, the Muse of Astronomy, 3) Erato, the Muse of Erotic Poetry, 4) Calliope, The Muse of Epic Poetry, 5) Terpsichore, the Muse of Choral Dance, 6) and last of all, Apollo Musagetes. This is an exceptional piece of Wedgwood that you will be sure to want to add to your own personal collection.
This particular piece of Wedgwood Jasper Ware came from out of the private estate collection of Bea Fray of Moberly, Missouri. Her husband was an eye doctor for many years in this area and Bea recently was selling down some of his fine antiques.
