G120B Doulton Silicon Lambeth Inkwell
This is a signed inkwell with the Doulton Silicon Lambeth markings on the bottom. There is also several other numbers and letters stamped into the bottom of this inkwell. What little bit that I can reference this item it appears that this signature for this piece of Lambeth Doulton would date this item to after 1891. However the marking that I found in my reference books is the same except that the word, 'England' is not stamped below my shield type signature and in my reference book it was. Beautiful contrasting colors of white, green, and blue stand out against the tan pottery background shade. The decorations on this pottery remind one of the jasperware designs applied to Wedgwood items. This inkwell has it's hinged lid and is complete with the pottery insert. There is a small knick around the edge of the insert. The insert is still held secure however. Also, note that around the center inkwell there has been the white jasperware like decorations that have come off over the years. At first glance one does not notice these, but after a closer examination, you will be able to note them. This is the only imperfections that I know on this piece of Lambeth Doulton that dates back to 1891 circa. The inkwell measures 7 1/4" diameter on the bottom plate like portion, stands right at 4" high, and the center inkwell is approximately 3 1/2" diameter, with the insert for the inkwell being only 1 3/8" diameter.
