G083C  Match Pair of Lusters or Lustres

This is an impressive and beautiful match pair of lusters that are decorated cranberry interiors with white overlay and enameled floral and figural designs that decorate the exterior side of the lusters. Both lusters are in excellent all original condition and they measure an impressive 14 1/2" high and are 6 3/4" diameter on the top and the bottom. There is eight large and impressive clear glass prisms that encircle each luster and the prisms hang an impressive 9 1/2" long. Please note on each prism the large cut glass balls that hang towards the bottom of each prism, these are very impressive and beautiful. On the very bottom of the lusters there is a signature wrote in gold lettering and to the best that I can read the cursive writing it reads, 'Oertel Handarbeis VIII'. In the reference book, 'Collectible Bohemian Glass 1880-1940' by Robert and Deborah Triutt, there is information on a Johann Oertel who in 1869 began painting glass in Novy Bor for local refineries and exporters. By the end of his life in 1909, the firm was producing under its own label and employing more than 100 home workers.

Oertel's output in glass was extensive and far ranging, however Oertel is best remembered for its two layered glass (red or blue, cut to clear cut in the broad facet manner that was especially popular in the first quarter of the 1900's. Which is the layering that is featured on this beautiful pair of lusters. There is gold highlights that are featured throughout each luster, and the combination of the cranberry glass openings throughout the white overlay makes for a breath taking appearance. Don't miss out on adding this fine match set of lusters to your own personal fine antique glassware collections.

Lusters are elaborate candleholders produced in pairs to set on a mantle or sideboard. It's a basic candlestick with a glass bowl the candle sits in.

Unusual shaped Cut-glass prisms dangle from the bowl.
