Family History:
This bookcase was purchased about 1915 as a wedding gift for Olaf K. Johnson by his wife, Elizabeth Kraft. It was purchased for approximately $170.00 at a furniture store in Waco, Texas. Olaf had just finished engineering school at Texas A&M, and this bookcase was purchased for Olaf to store all of his books. One of Olaf's accomplishments in his architectural career was that he designed the court house in Waco, Texas. The Stickley Bookcase remained in Austin, where they lived at Lake Travis which is just outside of Austin, until my grandfather passed away in 1982. It was then moved to Pharr, Texas to my mother's home. It was used at that time as a display case for antique glass. When my mother passed away in 2005, this wonderful bookcase was moved to Charlotte, NC and has been here ever since. This has been a much loved piece in our family and we hope someone will appreciate and enjoy it as we have.
