F501B Rosewood laminated Sofa made by Meeks
This is a beautiful Victorian Rosewood 'Meeks' Sofa in the Stanton Hall Pattern that measures 66" Wide. This beautiful sofa is a great example of Victorian Rococo Furniture with pierced and carved crest having grape and vine decorations with scrolled foliate carving. Circa 1860. Serpentine front with carved skirt, arms and legs. This sofa measures 46" high and is 36" deep at the deepest point. J. & J.W. Meeks:
A furniture manufacturing company first started in New York in the late eighteenth century. The business was passed down from father to son and in the mid nineteenth century was probably the largest American furniture making
company of its era. Meeks had offices in New York and New Orleans. A large group of thickly laminated rosewood furniture is attributed to Meeks.
