D031A Smitty Like Comic Character Doll with Dog
This all original cute bisque Japan made and marked little boy with his dog resembles the Comic character 'Smitty' in his appearance and dress. Smitty was a newspaper comic that was distributed by the Chicago Tribune Syndicate and was first introduced in 1922 by Walter Berndt. Notice the hat and the facial features that resembles Smitty. This cute little guy stands 6 1/2" high. Impressed into the back of the boy is the words, 'Made in Japan' with a little crown like design above the words. The little dog is a shiny porcelain piece that is also signed, 'Japan'. Impressed on the back hip of the dog there is what appears to be a very poor impression of the word, 'Japan'. The little dog stands only a little under 2" high. This is a cute little boy with his dog that grips your heart when you look at them. Note that we also still have a partial original box with this toy. Colorful paper over cardboard, with pictures of babies, puppies, penguins, and the like. This box measures 6 1/2" x 2 1/2" and stands 2 1/2" high. Notice that on one end of the box there is an original manufacture label listing the contents of the box and the label is also signed, 'Made in Japan'. This piece is in great all original condition. Don't miss out on enjoying this piece for your own collection.
