D003B  Bisque Kewpie Hugger Dolls

What a couple! This is the original kewpie dolls known as 'Huggers' by Rose O'Neill. Notice the original paper label that reads, 'Rose O' Neill - Kewpie Reg. US Pat Off. - 1913'. There is also a patent number and then the signature, 'Germany'. These little cuties measure only 3 1/2" high with exceptional facial expressions. All original and excellent condition.
Kewpies, designed by Rose O'Neill, were first pictured in the Ladies' Home Journal. The figures, which are similar to pixies, were a success, and Kewpie dolls started appearing in 1911. Kewpie pictures and other items soon followed. Collectors search for all items that picture the little winged people. - SOLD
