Q211 “Bolts of Lightning”
Quilt
- “Bolts of Lighting” made from red and black fabric. This outstanding Amish quilt top was purchased approximately fifteen years ago in Woodbury County, Iowa. This top was completely stitched together by hand. The blocks are 5 ¾” x 2 ¾” and the top was made about 1910. The red is the old ‘turkey red’ fabric and the black is from the same time period. Twelve years ago I took the quilt top back over to Monona County, Iowa and had it quilted. I was afraid if I didn’t have this top made up it would be destroyed or someone would use it for a tablecloth and ruin it by staining. The batting is cotton and the backing is a regulated cotton black fabric. The elderly lady, who quilted the quilt for me; used black thread and quilted an allover shell design that was used heavily on quilts of the 1910 era, the stitching is 6 stitches to the 1”. This is a normal sized quilt 67”x85”. It has never been washed as I have just carefully stored this quilt.
- $650.00.
