Q207 “Drunkards Path” Quilt
-
“Drunkards Path” is the name of the pattern of this quilt. This pattern got its name during probation years. However, this quilt was made in 1931 and it is so dated on the backside of the quilt by the maker using orange embroidery floss. 78"X86"is the quilt’s size. The quilting is 9 STITCHES TO THE 1"on the top side of the quilt. The quilting is done in a diagonal 1 ½”square pattern all over the quilt. The two-toned orange and white blocks are 4”. These are all pieced by hand stitches. The quilt is then assembled by machine stitches. The border of this quilt is orange and white 2 ½”strips. This border is quilted different than the body of the quilt. 1 ½” parallel lines make triangles and inverted triangles. This design runs every other one all around the edge. The edge binding is orange fabric and rolled and stitched on the backside with tiny hand stitching. One can see cottonseeds, in the batting when this quilt is held to the light. The quilt came out of Barton County, Kansas. The quilt appears to have had some water stain and a few fly specks on it. I would imagine that this spots would come out easily enough I have chose not to wash the quilt as it has not been washed before, and this is appealing to some quilt collector's.
